How and where do people meet their spouses in Azerbaijan? - Survey


In Azerbaijan, people meet their future spouses mainly through family and relatives.

reports that this information became known as a result of a survey conducted by the Center for Social Research.
In a survey conducted by CSR, it was found that 53.3% of people met their spouses through family and relatives. 10.1% of respondents met their spouses at work, 9.4% at school or university, 6% through neighbors, 5.7% through friends and 0.5% through the Internet.
In addition, among the answers offered by the respondents themselves, a wedding (3.6%) was mentioned as a place to meet. 2.8% of them noted that living in one place (village, city) is crucial when meeting people.
The results show that as the level of education of respondents increases, the percentage of acquaintances through family and relatives decreases, and the percentage of acquaintances at work, school and university increases. Among persons with secondary education, 57.1% met their spouse through family/relatives, 49.1% among persons with technical and vocational education, and 41.3% among persons with higher education.
Those who met at work among persons with secondary education - 6.1%, among persons with technical and vocational education - 15.8% and among persons with higher education - 22.9%.
For information, analyzed questions reflect the opinions of 3,478 respondents, including six telephone surveys (five of 384 people, one of 388 people) and one face-to-face survey (1,170 people). All surveys were conducted in 12 economic regions of the country (except Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and Eastern Zangezur) among people over 18 years of age on the basis of voluntary participation, while anonymity was completely preserved. The CSR said telephone surveys have a confidence rate of 95% and a margin of error of 5%. And with a face-to-face survey, the error is 3%, with the same percentage of confidence.
